Notes:

  • This album was first released on Columbia in the US (#CL 566) in 1954. The first Philips issue is from 1955, the one shown is a second pressing from 1956-58. It has the text “All Philips records are high fidelity records!” printed at the bottom of the back cover.

  • Delpher.nl shows several ads for this album, from 1958, which is pretty late. I guess the 1955 release was missed by the newspapers and a 1958 reissue finally drew attention. It could be the album shown here, meaning it’s a 1958 pressing. This album was also reissued in the “Giant Jazz Gallery” series, but this series started later, probably in 1960-61.

  • The artwork for this album was done by Emmerich Weninger. It’s a bit odd to see a double bass player prominently pictured on the front cover, instead of a piano player. But of course, you can’t go to college with a piano on your back…
