• “Mingus Ah Um” was first released in the US on Columbia CL 1370 (mono) and CS 8171 (stereo), both in 1959. Philips used the US cover art for this title, made by Neil Fujita. Fujita made several covers for Columbia, like “Time Out” by the Dave Brubeck Quartet, “Modern Jazz Perspective” by Don Byrd and Gigi Gryce. Other Philips albums including his art work are “The Jazz Odyssey Of Jimmy Rushing” (B 07235 L) and the self-titled album by the Jazz Messengers (B 07175 L)
