Notes:

  • This is apparently the first issue in the Favourites Series. Shown is the first pressing from 1954, featuring a fully laminated flip-over sleeve and yellow labels. Later pressings have grey-blue labels, a tip-on cover and may or may not show the text “All Philips records are high fidelity records!” on the back cover. Dutch pressings without this text are from 1955 and pressing with this text date from 1956 or later. It was also printed in several other countries including Germany, Denmark and Sweden.

  • The front cover shows the Beethoven house in Vienna (information according to the back cover).

  • This 10 inch album seems to have only been released by Philips, however both pieces were first issued on Philips N 11218 G and N 11219 G (a 12 inch 78rpm set, 1952) and, around the same time, on Philips A 00140 L, together with “Concerto For Two Violins in D major” (Bach). In the late 1950’s these pieces were reissued in the 45rpm format: 313 011 SF (No.1) and 313 002 SF (No. 2).

  • Ads for this album and for the Favourites Series first appeared in several newspapers in 1954. Here‘s an example from Algemeen Handelsblad, Sept. 17, 1954).
