– Albums to listen to…

Earlier today I found out that the archives.org website features many albums to listen to, including quite a few Philips Minigroove albums. I find this a much better alternative to YouTube, which I rather not use, for instance for all its commercial messages. For a few albums on this website I’ve included links to corresponding pages on archives.org: 00734, 06140, 01100, 00176, 00177 and 00440. More will follow.

– Philips S 06000 R (Beethoven)

Added today are scans from the first (Dutch) pressing of Philips S 06000 R, a 10 inch classic record, the first in the long Favourites Series that Philips ran. Click on the image below for more and larger images, and for more information.

– Philips N 02112 L (Rimsky-Korsakov)

There has been a big gap in my activities for the website, as I’ve been busy with loads of other things. Today I added images for Philips N 02112 L, and I hope to add more in the upcoming period.

Click on the image above to see all details for this album.

– Philips A 00734 R (Grieg)

Images were added for two versions of Philips A 00734 R, a first pressing from 1955 and a second pressing from 1956 or 1957 (prob.). Click on the image below to see all images and more details. This 10 inch album was actually a reissue of Philips N 00101 L from 1951.

– Philips in Tunisia

I found the label shot shown below on the gharamophone website. The Philips 78rpm record, a reissue of a 1937 Polyphon disc, was probably pressed in France to be distributed in Tunisia. Part of the information is in Arab. Quite an exotic record and I felt like showing the label on this website. In the meantime I’ve seen more Philips releases aimed at the North African market. There’s always something new to discover!

The article on the gharamophone website, with more information on the artist (Raoul Journo), can be found here and there’s more Philips and other interesting stuff to be found.

– Philips N 11144 G (Wagner)

Added were images for a 12 inch 78rpm record: Philips N 11144 G, “Ouverture Lohengrin” (Wagner) by the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Paul van Kempen. Click on the image below to see large images of both sides of this record.
