Recently I spent some time on cleaning a few old Columbia 10 inch records and among them were four titles from the label’s “Dance Parade” series, originally issued in 1949-50. I checked Discogs to see what this series was about and if there were connections with the Philips label. In 1949-50 Philips and Columbia didn’t yet cooperate, but that doesn’t mean that much and indeed, some of the titles in this Columbia series were issued on Philips as well, in c. 1953. To confuse things, Philips als issued albums in this Dance Parade series, that were not connected to the Columbia label. In this post I will try to shed a light on both the US and Dutch series. Note that this series is not (yet) mentioned on this website. Also note that only 10 inch issues are listed below.
