The summer appears to be a good time for record hunting, which I have been doing both online and in physical stores. The most interesting items that I came across, are currently offered on eBay and because of the prices asked (over €800 each), I didn’t feel like buying at all, but interesting it is nevertheless, so I decided to pay some attention to these albums on my website.

It’s about the following albums:

• Jimmy Bowen (Philips P 630 560 L, as 630 560 PL on the labels)
• Frankie Lymon: At The London Palladium (Philips P 630 562 L)

Both albums were “licensed by agreement with Roulette Records Inc.”, which is remarkable as I’ve not seen any connection between Philips and Roulette before. This could have been a specific arrangement. Both records were released in Chile, though this is only mentioned on the Jimmy Bowen LP; the back cover reads “Philips Chilena S.A. presenta Jimmy Bowen”). Both are from 1960, so some 3 years later than the US originals.

Images were added for Columbia CL 1233 by the André Popp orchestra with narrator Victor Borge. This is the American version of the first two Piccolo and Saxo 10 inch albums released by Philips. Click on the image below to see full-size images and more details.

In the passed few weeks many new albums (and a few EPs) have been added (scans need to be made for almost all of them) and there were several corrections made to the Minigroove-page and elsewhere. The Classical Favourites page for instance, has been updated and the listings for the 05300 and 05600 numbers have been separated. These were issued concurrently and featured European and American recordings respectively (some exceptions do exist though).
